On 22nd August 2025, Can Protect Foundation, in collaboration with AWWA (Army Women Welfare Association) and under the guidance of Uttarakhand Sub Area, organized a Free of Cost Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Camp at the Military Hospital, Dehradun.
The camp was inaugurated by Brigadier Parikshit Singh, Mrs. Sarvrit Kaur, Mrs. Seema Thapa, and Dr. Sumita Prabhakar.
Dr. Sumita Prabhakar delivered an informative health talk on breast and cervical cancer awareness. She explained risk factors, early warning signs, and the importance of breast self-examination. She also addressed common myths and emphasized preventive steps. Dr. Prabhakar highlighted the importance of the HPV vaccine for girls under 14 years and encouraged women to undergo regular Pap smear tests. She also appealed to the Indian Army to provide free HPV vaccines to Army families, especially for young girls, as the India-made vaccine is now available.
The Can Protect Foundation medical team, including Dr. Huma, Dr. Rekha Khanna, and Sister Nirmala Rana, carried out free breast and cervical cancer screening. Screenings were done through Pap smears, iBreast exams, gynecological check-ups, and general health tests like height, weight, blood pressure, hemoglobin, and blood sugar. More than 150 women benefitted from this health camp.
We are grateful to Brigadier Parikshit Singh, Commandant of Military Hospital, for his encouragement, and to Mrs. Sarvrit Gill, Chairperson of AWWA, for her kind support. Special thanks to Col. Alok Gupta and Col. Deepali Tripathi for actively supporting this vital health screening initiative.
As an NGO for breast cancer and an NGO for cervical cancer, Can Protect Foundation remains committed to the health and well-being of Army families. We have previously organized similar breast and cervical cancer screening camps in Meerut and Ambala, and we continue our mission to protect lives through awareness, prevention, and early detection.
Together, we can fight breast and cervical cancer and save lives.
