Breast Cancer Awareness Camp organized at Majhada Village in Uttarakhand

In its endeavor to help women living in rural hilly villages Dr. Sumita Prabhakar and her team of Can Protect Foundation organized a daylong medical camp with breast and cervical cancer early detection checkup at Majhada village near Sahastradhara on 27th January 2019 for people from five other surrounding villages. The medical camp was inaugurated by Shri Mahaveer Singh Rangad (President Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam) in presence of Shri Vinay Goyal, villagers, and beneficiaries of the camp.

The camp was organized keeping in mind the medical problems of the women and the paucity of healthcare resources around Majhada and adjoining villages. The medical Team of Dr. Sumita Prabhakar (gynecologist) along with a team of paramedics and volunteers actively participated and provided medical treatment, clinical breast checkup, training of breast self-examination, and menstrual hygiene dos and don’t. Gynecological consultations, distribution of free medicines and hemoglobin test was undertaken during the course of camp.

A total of 102 women, 35 men benefitted from the camp. Extensive arrangements were made by Can Protect Foundation ground team for the awareness and publicity of the camp, Banners have been hanged in places where more and more people can get information about the camp. The participating medical team was also instrumental in spreading awareness and educating participants on Women’s health issues, prevention of Breast and Cervical Cancer and other communicable and lifestyle diseases.

Women of the rural hilly village often have to linger for their health problems, medical Camps like this help women of rural villages as they can come to one place and avail medical facilities they require. We have started a campaign to aware and prevent women of remote hilly areas from breast and cervical cancer, we are doing it on a regular basis especially during difficult times such as winter,” Dr. Sumita Prabhakar said while speaking to media.

Briefing about the objectives of the camp, Dr. Sumita Prabhakar informed that it has been an endeavor of Can Protect Foundation to spread awareness about preventive healthcare and help the women of rural villages by providing facilities for Reproductive health training, Health counseling of adolescent girls, motivation in rural and remote area, birth control, Anemia testing, menstrual hygiene, breast and cervical cancer awareness and prevention and more. “Over 137 people from Majhada and 5 other villages are getting benefits from this camp,” she informed.

Gram Pradhan expressed gratitude to the Can Protect Foundation for organizing such camps in the village as it benefits hundreds of needy people.
