On this World Menstrual Hygiene Day, we at Can Protect Foundation reaffirm our commitment to raising awareness about the importance of menstrual hygiene and breaking the silence surrounding menstruation. A key part of our mission is to challenge the myths and taboos that often prevent open conversations about periods, while ensuring that girls and women across India, especially in underserved areas, have access to essential hygiene products and knowledge.

The Importance of Menstrual Hygiene

Menstrual hygiene is fundamental to women’s health and well-being. Poor menstrual hygiene can lead to serious health issues, including infections and reproductive complications, while the social stigma surrounding menstruation can cause emotional distress, isolation, and missed opportunities in education and work. It is crucial to break these barriers and create an environment where menstruation is recognized as a natural part of life.

Can Protect Foundation’s Initiatives

At Can Protect Foundation, we have made it our mission to empower women and girls through education and access to resources. Some of our key initiatives include:

  1. Free Distribution of Menstrual Hygiene Products
In many regions of India, access to sanitary pads is limited, and women often resort to using unsafe alternatives. Can Protect Foundation regularly conducts distribution drives to provide free sanitary pads and other menstrual hygiene products to women and girls in rural and economically disadvantaged communities. By doing so, we aim to reduce the health risks associated with poor menstrual hygiene.
  2. Educational Workshops on Menstrual Health
One of our core efforts is conducting workshops that educate young girls and women about menstruation. These sessions focus on explaining the biological process in a supportive and easy-to-understand manner. Participants learn about the menstrual cycle, personal hygiene practices, and how to manage their periods safely and comfortably.
  3. Breaking the Myths and Stigma
Unfortunately, menstruation is still a topic that carries significant stigma in many parts of the world. Can Protect Foundation works to debunk the myths surrounding menstruation through open discussions, campaigns, and awareness programs. We encourage women and girls to speak up about their experiences without fear of judgment, creating a space where menstrual health can be discussed freely.
  4. Supporting Schools and Communities
Our foundation also collaborates with schools to incorporate menstrual hygiene education into their curriculum, ensuring that young girls receive the information they need at an early age. Additionally, we work closely with local communities to establish menstrual hygiene as a priority in women’s health and support government initiatives that promote awareness.
